'The Day Before' delayed for 8 months over trademark issue

The Day Before has been delayed for 8 months after developer Fntastic allegedly failed to trademark the specific game.

Originally due for release in June 2023, The Day Before was delayed until March 1, 2023 this past year however in a brand new update, Fantastic has confirmed their open-world survival game will launch November 8.

A gameplay trailer was also set to be released later this month, giving players their first look at The Day Before since 2023 but this too has been affected by legalities. It'll however be released “as soon as possible”.

“Before the discharge, Steam blocked our game page in the request of a private individual, due to the name The Day Before,” wrote Fntastic.

The studio went on to describe that when The Day Before was announced in January 2023, “the game trademark was available”. However, “after the announcement from the game, all these individual filled out an application before us to join up the game trademark in the usa.”

“We weren't conscious of the existence of claims,” continued the developer, who allegedly only discovered them a week ago (January 19).

“We [will] discover all the circumstances from the incident and we'll definitely solve everything,” it promised.

“Problems in later life this might disappoint many of our fans, however we want to ensure we release the perfect game. Our 100 % focus remains on the game itself and how to deliver you the best game possible.”

Last summer, Fntastic was criticised for implementing “unpaid volunteers” despite The Day Before being one of Steam's most wish-listed titles.

The developer then defended its utilization of unpaid “volunteers”, writing inside a website update that: “Fntastic's culture is based on the idea of volunteering. This means that every Fntastic member is really a volunteer.”

It went on to explain that although “full-time volunteers” are essentially paid workers, “part-time volunteers” are unpaid developers that are instead given “cool rewards, participation certificates, and free codes” for their work.

In other news, Justin Roiland has reigned as CEO of Squanch Games following reports that he was once been faced with domestic violence.
