One of the most popular gaming surprises of last year was the announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the sequel to 2023’s FF7 Remake. Farmville works as a part 2, continuing the story of Cloud, Aerith and Tifa. It will be the 2nd part inside a three-part saga, followed by an as yet unannounced title.

Even though it was just announced a short time ago, we do know a good bit about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. There’s a trailer, showing Cloud and Sephiroth walking side-by-side, or even a rough release date.

As new information on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are announced we’ll update this page, collecting all official details within the run up to launch. For the time being, you’ll discover the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth release date, phone trailer, plus some info on a possible plot and setting.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth release date

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will release Winter 2023. For the time being, this really is all the info we have to go off of. The sport was revealed throughout the Final Fantasy VII 25-year anniversary stream that aired June 16, 2023. We’ll likely learn more within the coming months. After we do, we’ll make sure to update this page.

Latest news

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was just revealed just recently, but in the following couple of months we will probably start to hear more about the game. So far, we’ve seen a short reveal trailer, and gotten a release window. You’ll find the latest news, as it happens, below:

  • 'Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth' locations to be visited in new order
  • 'Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth' announced as next instalment in Remake Trilogy

Trailer

Square Enix revealed a first-look at FF7 Rebirth recently. You should check it out above this section. You’ll see Zack carrying Cloud, and Sephiroth walking side-by-side with Cloud.

Where is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth set?

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth appears to get right where the last game left off. Generally, the game will feature locations beyond Midgar, though that’s really all we know to date. FF7 Remake already altered the timeline drastically in comparison to the original game. From this point on, it’s clear that Square Enix promises to tell a rather different story, with Zack playing a clear role.

Given the first game within this new trilogy was predominantly set in Midgar, there’s a lot of possibility of new locations in the sequel. We’ll need to wait and find out how closely Rebirth follows the era of the initial FF7.

Platforms

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has only been announced for PS5 to date. Considering that it releases next Winter, and that Sony has begun to sunset its PS4 releases, it’s possible that it will likely be next-gen only. In terms of an Xbox Series X|S and PC release, they are likely to follow in a staggered release schedule like we saw for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The game did eventually come to PC platforms, but has still yet to produce on Xbox. We’ll have to wait and see whether Square Enix follows an identical pattern for Rebirth.

Characters

In terms of which characters will feature in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we don’t cash to go on. In the trailer we have seen Cloud and Sephiroth, as well as Zack included in a flashback. We are able to think that Tifa and Aerith will feature, but we've not had confirmation yet. We’ll be sure to increase the info once we learn more.

That’s all we know so far about FF7 Rebirth. For additional on Final Fantasy, be sure to take a look at our 4.5/5 star overview of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

In other gaming news, Destiny 2 developer Bungie is working on “a quantity of unannounced projects” with parent company Sony.
