Destroy All Humans! Switch Review A Geek Community

With the very first iteration of the remake releasing in July of 2023, the only real surprise with the Nintendo Switch port of Destroy All Humans! is that it took so long for developers Black Forest Games and publishers THQ Nordic to get it done. As the gameplay might not be different around the Switch, the biggest question is whether it’s worth obtaining for that Switch.

In to obtain a sense of how well the main harbour functions, I played with the game switching between docked and handheld mode fairly frequently. I needed to make sure I acquired a precise feel for the way the game worked fitness center on the run. The largest selling point for just about any Switch port is being able to play games on the run, in the end. It also offered me a wise decision of which type of controller is best.

I’ll begin with handheld mode, that is how I began the game. The largest positive I can give this port is that playing in handheld mode felt like, well, playing Destroy All Humans! on a handheld device. It did not look as crisp when i would have liked, but it played fine and there were no major discernible issues that weren't present alternatively consoles. Used to do find that while using attached Joy-Cons to play would be a little bit finicky, however. I'd trouble aiming as precisely when i wanted to, and movement felt a guessing game at times. Still, I never felt like playing the game in handheld mode was bad, it simply didn't necessarily feel great either. This really is fairly typical for Switch ports, therefore it should not stop anyone from playing by any means.

When moving from handheld to docked mode I expected to see a significant difference, however the game looked almost identical. One of my major critiques using the Switch port is the fact that there are times where the environments have a tendency to seem like they are coming straight out of the original 2005 form of the sport on the PlayStation 2. I know Switch versions of games will always be likely to look a little bit worse than on others, but there are times in the Destroy All Humans! port that the downgrade in appearance was distracting. With that in mind, the highlight from the game is not the way it looks, so the distracting graphical issues were not a turn-off for me.

I recently had Destroy All Humans! described to me as “Grand Theft Auto, but the version your mom would let you play as a kid”. It's honestly difficult to find a better description for that kind of game Destroy All Humans! sets out to be. The humor pushes boundaries without going as far as Grand Theft Auto, and the fact that it is all aliens causes it to be a much more “family-friendly” game. As this is being released around the Switch though, it’s likely the game will discover a much younger player base looking into it. It’s important to note that there are some very outdated jokes that scream “farmville came out in 2005” to be cautious about. There is plenty of homophobia displayed through the Americans of the 1950s, that is historically accurate but could often seem like punching down just to poker fun at homosexuality. You can read much more about that and additional factors from the game itself from your overview of the initial remake release here because this review is primarily centered on the value of the Switch port.

The biggest feature for Destroy All Humans! on the Nintendo Switch may be the ability to take part in the game on the go, and it is perfectly playable that way. In fact, I personally enjoyed playing it handheld more than I did docked. There wasn’t a very noticeable distinction between the two beyond screen resolution. If you haven't purchased the game on another system or the idea of playing it on the go is an essential aspect to you, i quickly would the game is worth looking at. With that in mind, I would not recommend anyone just looking to experience the game purchase it around the Switch should they have the ability to play on another platform. Switch ports are always going to suffer from being a slight step down using their other console counterparts, and Destroy All Humans! is exactly the same.

Destroy All Humans! is readily available for the Nintendo Turn on June 29th.
