Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has said the studio might not create a follow-up to 'The Last People Part 2', regardless of the success from the HBO television adaptation.
The Last Of Us was launched in 2013, ahead of a sequel in 2023 and a 2023 remake. The series is among the best-ever selling game titles, while a recent HBO adaptation (starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey) has introduced more and more people to Naughty Dog's world.
However inside a new interview, Druckmann (who was also active in the HBO series) has stated Naughty Dog they are under no obligation to create a Part 3.
“I understand there’s a bunch of people curious about The Last Of Us Part 3 and whether that'll be anything or not. All I could have to say is, at Naughty Dog we’re very, very privileged that our publisher Sony has supported us all the method to follow our passions,” he told Buzzfeed.
“He continued to explain this resulted in “just because something works, people think there’s all this pressure and that we need to make a sequel. That’s incorrect.”
Druckmann explained that regardless of the Uncharted series being “insanely successful” Naughty Dog has been able to “put our final brushstroke with that story and state that we’re done [with Uncharted 4]. We’re moving on.”
“Likewise, with The Last Of Us, it’s up to us whether we want to continue it or otherwise. If we may come track of a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love – just like the third and fourth game did – then we will tell that story. When we can’t come up with something, we have a very strong ending with Part 2 which will function as the end.”
Naughty Dog are presently focusing on a standalone, multiplayer game occur The Last Of Us universe.
More news is expected this year but speaking with Buzzfeed, Druckmann explained: “You’ll be able to go into the world of The Last Of Us together with your friend and get to experience the strain and the brutality of this world [alongside] a fresh story and cast of characters that live in another city that we haven’t seen yet. This really is going to be another chapter in that universe.”
In other news, Disney Dreamlight Valley has revealed its 2023 roadmap, with new characters, storylines and items coming to the game over the next couple of months alongside multiplayer.
